“You can’t stop the waves, you can learn to surf.”
-Jon Cabbot Zen
Hey, I’m Danyale
You want someone who has “been there and done that.” Who gets you, knows how frustrated and unhappy you are, how overwhelmed you feel and how lost you are. Who understands you are just trying to survive your day without any phone calls from the school. You’ve tried it all; you’ve maybe tried the therapy thing before and either the person wasn’t helpful or you were turned off by them talking at you or your child. You want to know “Can she really help me?” “Can she really help my child?”
I get it! Parenting is hard, it’s even harder when you feel alone.
I don’t believe it’s my job to fix you; I believe it’s my job to give you the tools to help yourself and child. By giving you these tools, you learn to surf the waves. Clients who understand this, are the clients I have helped succeed. Understanding that you have to work and be committed helps therapy be a success for you or your child. There’s no magic wand, no quick fix. Problems didn’t start overnight, they took time to build. Client’s I work best with want someone whose straightforward and calls it like it is. I definitely participate in your treatment. Therapy will seem like you’re talking to a friend. When clients enter the office they will meet someone who’s laid back, casually dress (jeans, tennis shoes or flip-flops) and down to earth and inviting.
I am passionate about working with parents who want help through a variety of issues with their child/teen such as communication, discipline, and conflict.
I will use play and expressive approaches to help your child, your teen and your family get through the tough times and reconnect. By using play and expressive approaches, it helps to create more joy and disarm the fear and anxiety we have in the unknown. Play helps decrease the number of repetitions it will take for your child to learn the skills needed to be successful in whatever challenges they are facing. Research demonstrates play creates new synapses in our brain allowing for 10-20x of repetitions whereas, without play, it could take upwards of 400x.
Experience & Interests
Now that you know that I get it…
Here are my qualifications [(maybe boring) Feel free to skip if you already know I’m the one you want to help you)]
I have worked in almost every setting possible. I have worked with children, families, and adults for 16+ years. I have worked with the toughest of kids and the most determined of adults. I have specialized training in play therapy, Autism, trauma, addictions, chronically suicidal and self-injurious behaviors. My training and education will help you succeed.
I enjoy yoga, hiking, camping, animals (I have 2 furry babies), reading and learning. I love thrift store shopping, riding with the top off of my jeep and lots of outdoor activities. I’m a Florida girl and a mountain woman.
I received a Bachelors in Criminal Justice at the University of Central Florida and a Master’s of Social Work at Florida State University (GO Noles! and yes, I am a Floridian). I’m not going to bore you with all of the details of my coursework, you’re always welcome to ask. I do have advanced training and education in Play therapy and am the only practicing Registered Play Therapist Supervisor in the area.
Although there are many therapists who have similar experience and possibly have had their license a lot longer than I have (5+years), it doesn’t necessarily make them the best or most qualified. I am a Licensed Clinical Supervisor for Social Workers and Play Therapist’s. I teach, model, and develop new therapists in training. I use a variety of evidenced-based models and approaches in both therapy and supervision which put you right at ease. I am certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Clinical Trauma and AutPlay.
Hopefully, this information has been helpful in your decision to choose the right person for your child, teen or yourself. If you still have questions, please feel free to contact me. Not only will I not try to convince you I’m the best, but I’ll also help you figure out what you’re looking for and refer you to the person I think could help you best.
