    About Waves Counseling Services, LLC

“You can’t stop the waves, you can learn to surf.”

    -Jon Cabbot Zen

You want someone who has “been there and done that.” Some one who gets you, knows how frustrated and unhappy you are, how overwhelmed you feel and how lost you are. Someone who understands you are just trying to survive your day. You’ve tried it all; you’ve maybe tried the therapy thing before and either the person wasn’t helpful or you were turned off by them talking at you or your child. You want to know “Can someone really help me?” “Can someone really help my child?”

At Waves Counseling Services, LLC we get it! LIFE is hard, it’s even harder when you feel alone and when there’s limited resources available.

    What we believe in…

We believe it’s our responsibility to give you and your child the tools and space needed to grow and improve. We believe in the wellness model of mental and physical health. We believe in collaboration to help you reclaim your balance and vitality while navigating through your challenges. We know that once you connect to your resilience and the truth of your experience, you will be back on the path to health and wholeness – and we are honored to surf the waves with you.

    Our People…

There’s no magic wand, no quick fix. Problems didn’t start overnight, they took time to build. People who understand this, are the people we have helped succeed. People we work best with want someone whose straightforward and calls it like it is. Understanding you have to work and be committed helps therapy be a success for you or your child.

When clients enter the office they will meet someone who’s laid back, casually dressed (jeans, tennis shoes, or flip-flops), down to earth and inviting. Your Clinician is not easily offended by language and have been known themselves to drop a word or two. We definitely participate in your treatment.

Our Clinicians are passionate about working with parents who want help through a variety of issues with their child/teen such as communication, discipline, conflict, sexuality, sexual orientation, social difficulties etc.

Our Clinicians are passionate about helping you with a variety of issues and in a variety of ways. Our Clinicians use a holistic approach. You can rest-assured, any faith, religion, spiritual beliefs are accepted and welcomed. Any gender and any sexual orientation are welcome. Pro-nouns are affirmed. We use She/Her, and He/Him.

We are affirming and an ally.

Whether you’re searching, exploring or questioning, we are here to help you find YOU.

What Our Space Has to Offer

We now have two locations. (pictures of the second location to come)

When you enter the doors of our spaces; you will be greeted and provided instructions either in writing or a friendly face. You are welcome to help yourself to coffee or water. We have hot tea by request. We offer snacks for the children as needed.

We offer a space for families to spend time together without digital devices and we encourage this. This can be a time for you and your child to play outside in our spacious green area, read a book, or play board games while waiting. We offer outdoor games and indoor games.

Music is often playing and can be changed per your request. If you’re not comfortable we invite you to request what you need to make your visit more comfortable, even if this means taking your shoes off.

    Education & Licensure

At Waves Counseling Services, LLC we believe in furthering the field of mental health. Therefore, we are a teaching practice. We have clinicians who are still in college and completing an internship, clinicians who have graduated and working towards a full Clinical License (the highest of achievements) and Clinicians who are fully Licensed and working on specialty areas.

We believe that good, solid expertise is critical for your psychotherapist to bring to the table. We stress quality training in areas that are mandated under our licensure, such as professional ethics, but also in areas that increase our ability to practice within our areas of competency. We believe that our training helps us stand out in our field. We bring a multi-faceted, multi-competency, multi-modality approach to our field.

All of our Clinicians who work with children and teens are under the direct supervision and consultation of a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor and Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Our Clinicians use a variety of evidence-based models and approaches in therapy which put you right at ease. They are trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing); Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Clinical Trauma and are those who are not, are provided consultation and supervision by a Nationally Certified Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and an EMDR Certified Clinician.

Hopefully, this information has been helpful in your decision to choose the right person for your child, teen or yourself. If you still have questions, please feel free to contact our office at Contact. Not only will we not try to convince you we’re the best; we will help you figure out what you’re looking for and refer you to the person we think could help you best.
